I’m a freelance journalist and Contributing Editor for British GQ. Between 2010 and 2015, I worked as deputy on the subs’ desk, while also being allowed to indulge my appetite for writing about food. Since I left the staff job, I’ve carried on writing regularly for the Taste (bars, hotels and restaurants), Travel (er, travel) and Life (health) sections, as well as turning my hand to the occasional Foreword. I also contribute reviews and articles to GQ.co.uk.
I’ve written for titles such as Brides, Robb Report (UK), Skyscanner, NatWest & RBS ContentLive, Amazon Restaurants, BA High Life and The Line, Ealing. I’ve had work appear in GQ India and I’ve been translated into Spanish for GQ Mexico. I also wrote about the history of rum for the cocktail book GQ Drinks (Mitchell Beazley, 2014).
I first became a journalist in 2002, cutting my teeth on a local newspaper as a cub reporter and escaping via shifts on national papers and magazines. GQ came along after staff positions at Lexus, First, ShortList and Stylist, where I was Production Editor for the magazine’s launch issues.
SUB-EDITING & PROOFREADING
I was Deputy Chief Sub-Editor at GQ for nearly six years, worked on the 2009 launch of women’s magazine Stylist as Production Editor, and had staff jobs on the subs’ desk at ShortList and First. I’ve also freelanced for numerous national magazines and newspapers, such as Vogue, The Sunday Times Style, Empire, The Guardian, Glamour, Grazia, Elle, Robb Report and FT Magazine. I also proofread and edit eBooks for Ditch the Carbs, the No1 food blog in Australia and New Zealand, as well as manner of projects for small businesses, from handbooks and tender documents to essays and web copy.
